As I write this post on Tuesday, it has taken me two days to get my brain cells functioning again after the weekend.

Yes I know that I talk about healthy, clean food alot. But this just re-affirms how far from perfect I am.

I had my Niece’s pre-wedding party. So you can imagine there was plenty of overindulgence with food, drinks and even the odd cigarette (I don’t smoke though – go figure) Clearly something went a little haywire somewhere.

Once upon a time, I would have thought it was the end of life as I knew it, because I didn’t stick to my core values and principles. Age has taught me that there is no need to beat myself up over ‘letting loose’, because the karma is in how my body responds to this poor treatment.

No this time around, I was gentle and loving with myself.

I rested.

I slept.

I green juiced.

I even had a little giggle about how cheeky I was.

And most importantly, I vowed to never to do it again.

Not because I can’t – but because I prefer feeling light, free, happy, loving.

What’s your self-talk when you do something cringeworthy?

The most destructive thing you can do, is berate yourself or try to carry on as normal when your body really needs some TLC.

This week’s recipe is a light n breezy kinda juice from JuiceRecipes.com

So be kind to yourself, enjoy this juice and get yourself feeling breezy again.

Grapefruit pineapple

High on my list of priorities, is self-care.

This takes place in many forms for me, from juicing, to shopping, to sitting under the shade of a tree on a glorious summer day.

As you know, things have been movin-and-a-shakin around here, so now more than ever is a crucial time to ensure this machine is crystal clean and operating efficiently.

I have been experiencing Acupuncture sessions with a Chinese Medicine Practitioner for the past 3 weeks. Now, although I have felt some minor results over the last few weeks, the effects of the last session really kicked in. I felt light, energetic, happy and ready to tackle what had seemed so hard just an hour beforehand.

There is a double whammy bonus to these weekly sessions, because I am forced to stop.

It leaves me with no choice but to switch off my phone, be still, and therefore actually meditate.

With my eyes closed during these ‘meditations’, I have been seeing beautiful colours swirling through my mind’s eye. For someone who loves colour so much, it’s an amazing thing to witness! Look at the awsomeness that happens when you allow it.

I feel like I have finally sprung into Spring – better late than never huh? 🙂

With Spring nearly over here in Australia, have you enjoyed the fruits/veggies in season to get you ‘springing’ in preparation for Summer?

I know I haven’t. To make up for lost time, I have created a simple zingy + refreshing juice for you.

Why it’s good for you.

Grapefruit – High in Vitamin C, lowers cholesterol and is ranked as one of the highest sources of antioxidants. This little gem is a beautiful allrounder.

Pineapple – Protein-digesting enzymes, protection again Macular Degeneration, Anti-inflammatory, Vitamin C, B1, Managanese.

Broccoli – rich with vitamin A and C, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, and manganese. Fresh broccoli juice has also been proven to be beneficial to heart and eye health. Drinking broccoli juice daily lowers the risk of problems such as heart disease and high blood pressure.

Cucumber – Multi-purpose benefits include, supplying electrolytes for hyrdration, aids digestion. Cucumbers contain Silica which nourishes hair, skin and nails.

Lime – Alkalizing, anti-aging, may lower cholesterol (and tastes yum!)

Energiser to Energize

Vegie trolley

Excitement plus at Glass Straws HQ.

We did our first photoshoot last week, and it sure was a massive learning curve.

My trolley was overloaded with supplies for the shoot .. all that green goodness. This would normally have lasted me weeks.

Our glass straw range has sprouted from a humble 5 products up to 21, in a whole harvest of colours and we have a bounty of mason jars coming up too.

The shoot was a really long day (over 7 hours) and rather exhausting, but we had our choice of tantalizing smoothies and juices to keep our energy up.

I posted a pic of me on facebook staring at a scrumptious choc smoothie, and I got a lot of questions wondering what went into it exactly. I mean, how can the words chocolate + healthy be used together right?

Me yellow with straw

So here’s the recipe for the energizing smoothie that helped keep me going all day/night. This little beauty certainly kept me on my feet for hours. I have adapted this from a recipe posted on Kris Carr’s website and of course, you’re going to adapt it to suit your own particular preferences.

Let me break it down for ya 🙂

Bananas – Rich in Vitamin B, Magnesium, high concentration of fiber and ascorbic acid (vitamin c) which helps promote good digestion and prevents constipation. They also include essential amino acid tryptophan which can help fight depression and keep you feelin’ good.

Cashews – In moderation, they keep the heart, skin and hair healthy. They’re also great for the bones, nerves, bones and preventing gallstones.

Cacao – Packed with antioxidants, this is a major superfood. It’s also a stimulant and mood enhancer by increasing Seratonin (the feel good chemical). Cacao is also an anti-ager, increases blood circulation and has A, B1, B2, B3, C, E. Phwoarrr I could go on and on about the benefits but you get the jist 🙂

Maca – Offers energy, balances the endocrine system, such as the adrenals, pancreatic, pituitary and thyroid gland. It’s also reported to help people increase their endurance along with their mental focus. Maca is also able to balance hormone levels naturally, as well as revitalizing the whole body.

Almond milk – Contains flavonoids, which help to lower levels of “bad” cholesterol and protect the heart. Research has shown that powerful antioxidants in almonds help inhibit the growth of free radicals and support a strong immune system

I would love to see you enjoying your Chocolate Energizer, so be sure to come on over and post your pics on our Facebook page.

 Recipe of the week

Super Energizer Chocolate + Cashew Smoothie

Chocolate energizer smoothie

Ingredients

* 1 small banana

* 1 handful raw cashews, (or 1 tablespoon of cashew or peanut butter)

* 1 tablespoon raw cacao powde

* 1 heaped teaspoon maca powder

* 1 handful cacao beans or nibs

* 1/14 cup almond milk

* 1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder

* 1 pinch unrefined sea salt

* 1 pinch cinnamon

Instructions

1. Keep a handful of cacao nibs and cashews on the side for topping and blend all the rest of the ingredients in a high-speed blender.

2. Sprinkle spare cacao nibs and cashews on top.

3. Pour into a gorgeous tall glass or mason jar and enjoy with  Sexy Straight  or Bent Smoothie Straw.

Remember, to always experiment with what works for you and you if you love more of something, then by all means add some more. Same thing applies if you don’t like something – just leave it out.

Personally I love Cinnamon, so I actually put more like 3 pinches in there hehe.

Enjoy in great health!
