Energiser to Energize

Vegie trolley

Excitement plus at Glass Straws HQ.

We did our first photoshoot last week, and it sure was a massive learning curve.

My trolley was overloaded with supplies for the shoot .. all that green goodness. This would normally have lasted me weeks.

Our glass straw range has sprouted from a humble 5 products up to 21, in a whole harvest of colours and we have a bounty of mason jars coming up too.

The shoot was a really long day (over 7 hours) and rather exhausting, but we had our choice of tantalizing smoothies and juices to keep our energy up.

I posted a pic of me on facebook staring at a scrumptious choc smoothie, and I got a lot of questions wondering what went into it exactly. I mean, how can the words chocolate + healthy be used together right?

Me yellow with straw

So here’s the recipe for the energizing smoothie that helped keep me going all day/night. This little beauty certainly kept me on my feet for hours. I have adapted this from a recipe posted on Kris Carr’s website and of course, you’re going to adapt it to suit your own particular preferences.

Let me break it down for ya 🙂

Bananas – Rich in Vitamin B, Magnesium, high concentration of fiber and ascorbic acid (vitamin c) which helps promote good digestion and prevents constipation. They also include essential amino acid tryptophan which can help fight depression and keep you feelin’ good.

Cashews – In moderation, they keep the heart, skin and hair healthy. They’re also great for the bones, nerves, bones and preventing gallstones.

Cacao – Packed with antioxidants, this is a major superfood. It’s also a stimulant and mood enhancer by increasing Seratonin (the feel good chemical). Cacao is also an anti-ager, increases blood circulation and has A, B1, B2, B3, C, E. Phwoarrr I could go on and on about the benefits but you get the jist 🙂

Maca – Offers energy, balances the endocrine system, such as the adrenals, pancreatic, pituitary and thyroid gland. It’s also reported to help people increase their endurance along with their mental focus. Maca is also able to balance hormone levels naturally, as well as revitalizing the whole body.

Almond milk – Contains flavonoids, which help to lower levels of “bad” cholesterol and protect the heart. Research has shown that powerful antioxidants in almonds help inhibit the growth of free radicals and support a strong immune system

I would love to see you enjoying your Chocolate Energizer, so be sure to come on over and post your pics on our Facebook page.

 Recipe of the week

Super Energizer Chocolate + Cashew Smoothie

Chocolate energizer smoothie

Ingredients

* 1 small banana

* 1 handful raw cashews, (or 1 tablespoon of cashew or peanut butter)

* 1 tablespoon raw cacao powde

* 1 heaped teaspoon maca powder

* 1 handful cacao beans or nibs

* 1/14 cup almond milk

* 1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder

* 1 pinch unrefined sea salt

* 1 pinch cinnamon

Instructions

1. Keep a handful of cacao nibs and cashews on the side for topping and blend all the rest of the ingredients in a high-speed blender.

2. Sprinkle spare cacao nibs and cashews on top.

3. Pour into a gorgeous tall glass or mason jar and enjoy with  Sexy Straight  or Bent Smoothie Straw.

Remember, to always experiment with what works for you and you if you love more of something, then by all means add some more. Same thing applies if you don’t like something – just leave it out.

Personally I love Cinnamon, so I actually put more like 3 pinches in there hehe.

Enjoy in great health!

Love Monique x
